So many partings by Cathy Cash Spellman
Book Number:RC 19613
5 sound cassettes
Follows the loves and fortunes of Tom Dalton, illegitimate son of an Anglo-Irish aristocrat and an Irish domestic, who leaves Ireland for New York in 1900. The estrangement between mother and son is the core of the plot that also chronicles labor struggles on the New York waterfront, the lives of Tom's three children, skirmishes between Irish gangs and the Mafia, and Tom's eventual regaining of his Irish legacy. Some strong language and some descriptions of sex.
This is a great book. An epic tale that spans 5 generations. Spellman really has a flair for detail, which I love. This book has it all, great story line, very complex characters, history and the feeling that you know these people. It runs the gamut of emotions, from deep love, passion, family devotion and betrayal, friendship and loyalty to a cause. Spellman really paints the time period with every color in her pallet. From Ireland to New York to Boston, to the Klondike territory and back to the Emerald Isle, this tale will carry you away. I give this one a 5 out of 5.
Happy reading,
